Rs 1 lakh crore will be raised from public-private partnership, Rs 1.05 lakh crore from internal resources in the 12th Plan. Rs. 95,000 crore has been the shortfall last year, meeting this shortfall will mean a paradigm shift. There has been significant drop to 1/3 in train accidents. Presence of women in RPF to go up to 10% – that will be reservation for women in RPF.
Railways to set up six more Rail Neer bottling plants. Identification of 104 stations for upgradation in places with more than one million population and of religious significance. Railways is aiming to eliminate 31,846 level crossings with flyovers. Fire extinguishers will be kept in all guard vans in every train.
Seventeen bridges were identified for repair. Railway committed to bring marked change in passenger amenities
e-ticketing via mobile phones - free wi-fi in select trains.
SMS alert service being rolled out shortly to update passengers about reservation status. Railways will start using Aadhar data base for bookings and validation of passengers
Special A/C coaches ‘Anubhuti’, to be introduced in select Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains to give excellent ambience with commensurate fare
Internet booking to be strengthened with next-generation e-ticketing system to eliminate delays
23 hours Internet booking will be provided from 00:30AM to 11:30 PM.
Railways set to enter 1 billion ton freight club of China, Russia and US
Allocation of Rs 1,000 crore each made for railway land development authority and railway station development authority.
Rs 9000 crore investments expected including Rs 3,800 crore in port connectivity and Rs 800 crore in iron ore mines connectivity
New coach manufacturing and maintenance facilities to be set up in various places including Rae Bareli, Bhilwara, Sonepat, Kalahandi, Kolar, Palakkad and Pratapgarh

- Balanced Railway budget – Bansal says!
India’s Railway minister Bansal said that Railway budget of the year 2013-14 shall be balanced and equal importance shall be given to all regions of India. Bansal also stressed that he doesn’t show partiality to any region.
- Odisha now wants ₹3,050 crore of railway budget allocation in 2013-14
Odisha Transport minister Subrat Tarai said “A committee of the assembly led by Speaker P K Amat will submit the memorandum in this regard to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal next month. The House panel has prepared a list of projects which required urgent attention”
He also said “This apart, we will also demand establishment of a multi-model logistic park at Kalinga Nagar and filling of all technical posts in East Coast Zone in order to expedite activities”
